| FRANCE SLANA
France Slana graduated from the Academy of Figurative Arts in Ljubljana,
Yugoslavia in 1949. Among the most versatile and prolific of the
artists who came to maturity immediately after the Second World
War, he combines an intensely personal style with a profound respect
for the painting traditions of the pre-war era. In the words of
art historian Emilijan Cevc, "Slana creates a world of his own."
The artist uses his imagination to reshape reality into a universe
of fluid line and vibrant color. He freely interprets forms but
never strays into total abstraction; this results in an inner structure
to his compositions which is attractive and interesting.
